Advanced Leadership for Group Leaders

This course is for alumni of the EMBO Laboratory Leadership course. If you have not yet taken the original lab leadership course, please see the course dates for the that course.

We hope very much that the tools and models that you discovered in the EMBO Laboratory Leadership course have been useful to you and have helped you and your lab achieve a new level of productive working and success. This follow-up course is designed to revisit some of those tools to refine their implementation, as well as to deepen and broaden your understanding of the skills and abilities that will make you a successful leader.

The aim is to give you space, some months or years after taking the first course, to reflect on your progress as a leader, add new tools to your repertoire, and dig a little deeper on some of the leadership ideas and theory that we have seen succeed in research laboratories. If you have been using the team clock model, this course might help you get your team from 8 or 9 o'clock to 10 or even 12 o'clock.

The course is the same style as the lab leadership course and participants will be called upon to share even more of their experience in applying their leadership craft throughout the 3-day workshop.

Notes on Timings:

  1. All timings are approximate, as we will be working in a process-oriented manner. The time spent on a topic will expand or shrink to meet the needs of the course participants.
  2. Check-in at the hotel is the night *before* the start of the course (this night is included in the course fee).
  3. We start at 09:00 and work until approximately 17:30.
  4. On Day 1 and 2 we will have a Clinic from 18:00 to 19:30
  5. On the final day, we work until 13:00
